The bond between the two initially blossomed on the sets of 2001's uber-exemplary commercial hit Ocean's Eleven. Clooney once disclosed how he convinced Julia Roberts to be a part of the well-celebrated endeavor.
How the friendship between the two blossomed
He recalled never having met the Notting Hill alum before the Steven Soderbergh-directed premise allowed them to know each other better. Back then, The American star knew that Roberts was making 20 million dollars per film. To get her to be a part of Ocean's Eleven, George Clooney sent her a 20-dollar bill on a script with the punchline, "I hear you get $20 a picture now." This incident was what kickstarted the beginning of their life-long amity.
Roberts has also been very vocal about her camaraderie with Clooney. She once remarked how grateful she had been for the fact that the two of them were not "Hollywood friends." The Valentine's Day actress was thankful to know that they genuinely liked each other and were not putting up a façade for the rest of the world to see and gush at.
What substantiates their fellowship is how their families are also close to one another. As claimed by Roberts, all of them "keep stitching" their "lives closer together." Therefore, it is blatantly obvious that both renowned celebrities, who have starred in multiple movies together, are nothing but close friends.
In an interview with Access Hollywood's Kit Hoover, Roberts and Clooney sat down to talk about their upcoming romantic-comedy film Ticket to Paradise. This is where the 61-year-old industry sensation revealed the reason behind the two never dating. Firstly, both the talents discussed their first impressions of each other and the best quality that they admired about one another.
Why George Clooney and Julia Roberts never dated
To the 54-year-old actress, George Clooney seemed "gentle" and "suave" at first glance, and the trait that she appreciated the most in the Out of Sight actor was his "fortitude." On the other hand, to the Up in the Air star, Roberts was the one who made him laugh and he respected her "kindness." Then, momentarily after, the duo was questioned whether or not the two had a "no-dating policy" years and years before they were committed to other people.
Roberts had the following response:
"To not date each other? I don't think we needed to state it!"
Clooney then elaborated and stated that the two, even back then, were always in a relationship with someone or the other and had different people in their lives. They were simply fast friends and it's been fun that way. Here's what he had to say:
"Julia was always in a relationship, or I was in a relationship. And we were fast friends right away. So it was nothing, but it's been nothing but fun for us. So, I don't think that was ever really a thing."
Therefore, there was no such thing as a "no-dating policy" in the friendship shared between the stars of the Ocean's franchise.
